Construction work is set to start on a housing development which will deliver 150 new homes in Saffron Walden.
Bellway Essex is building the homes at Poppy View, off Thaxted Road, after planning consent for the site was granted earlier this year.
The development will provide 60 affordable homes for local people, including four bungalows and four apartments, with 42 of these properties available through affordable rent and 18 through shared ownership.
The remaining 90 homes will be sold privately and will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses to suit a wide range of buyers.
Richard Burrows, Managing Director of Bellway Essex, said: “There is high demand for additional housing in Saffron Walden and we have sought to provide a good mix of homes that will appeal to both first-time buyers and families, and also complement the surrounding community.
“The development will be a boost to the local economy by creating jobs directly on site as well as supporting the supply chain across the wider area.
“Our plans for this development include maintaining and enhancing green open spaces, with extensive planting and retention of trees and hedges on the boundaries of the site as well as the provision of two landscaped greens and a children’s play area.
“This is a highly sustainable location for new homes, situated just a mile south-east of Saffron Walden town centre.
“The development also benefits from being only a short drive from Audley End rail station, for direct trains to London Liverpool Street, making it suitable for those commuting into the capital.
“We’re looking forward to starting work on site, with a view to opening to the public later this year, and our first residents moving in during spring next year.”
