Wingate development reaches construction milestone

Construction work has passed a key milestone at Bellway Durham’s Wellfield Rise development in Wingate, where more than a quarter of the homes have now been built.

The developer is delivering 250 homes at the site off Wellfield Road, featuring a collection of two, three and four-bedroom houses.

The keys to all 70 completed properties have now been handed over.

These include 53 houses purchased by buyers on the open market, as well as 17 affordable homes bought or rented at below market value.

Hayley Teasdale, Sales Manager for Bellway Durham, said: “This is a significant milestone in the build programme at Wellfield Rise, where construction work started in 2020.

“There has been a high level of interest in the properties at the development since we announced our plans to deliver more than 200 much-needed new homes. This has translated into a healthy demand which has seen buyers snap up more than 30 per cent of the properties.

“A total of 88 homes have now been reserved at Wellfield Rise. This includes the 70 already occupied as well as a further 18 homes which are still under construction.

“With all homes due to be finished by 2025, we are looking forward to welcoming more new residents to Wellfield Rise over the next three years as the site continues its transformation into a thriving community.”

As part of the planning agreement for the development, Bellway is contributing more than £1.3 million towards local infrastructure and services as well as creating 20-acres of public open space at the 46-acre Wellfield Rise development.

The contributions include £716,000 towards local education services; £369,000 for sport and leisure facilities; £160,000 towards improving public rights of way; and £84,000 to enhance cycle paths.

Hayley said: “As well as delivering new homes, we have a responsibility to invest in the communities where we are building. The financial contributions we are providing will support vital public services and fund improvements to much-valued community facilities, helping to improve the lives of local residents.

“The mix of detached and semi-detached homes at Wellfield Rise has been designed to suit a range of potential purchasers, including first-time buyers, commuters and growing families looking for more space. Residents will benefit from being close to the village’s amenities, as well as having a range of well-regarded schools nearby and easy access to the A19 for commuting.”

A total of 225 homes at Wellfield Rise are being built for sale on the open market. The other 25 properties have been designated as affordable housing. This includes 19 properties being sold by Bellway at below market value to buyers who meet eligibility criteria, and six homes available for low-cost rent through a housing association.

There is currently a choice of three and four-bedroom homes available on the open market at Wellfield Rise, with prices starting at £154,995.

A selection of two and three-bedroom below market value properties are also available, priced from £105,250.
