Work starts on next phase of Rugby development

Construction work has begun on the next phase of homes at a new village which is being created on the former Rugby Radio Station site.

The 27 homes represent the third phase of properties being built by Davidsons Homes at the new village of Houlton and mark the start of its newest development at the site, which is set to include a total of 70 new homes.

Plans for the first 27 homes were approved in November 2020, while planning permission for the remaining 43 homes – Davidsons Homes’ fourth phase at the site – are currently with Rugby Borough Council for approval.

The approval of this next phase of homes comes as work draws to a close at Dollman Meadow, Davidsons Homes’ first phase of homes in Houlton, while significant progress has been made on the second phase of properties named Houlton View.

Houlton is a new community being created by a consortium of housebuilders which is set to include approximately 6,000 new homes, three primary schools, a secondary school and 500 acres of open space. The first residents moved into their new homes in Houlton – at Dollman Meadow – in 2017.

The site was formerly the home of Rugby Radio Station, once the world’s largest radio transmission station, which ceased operations in 2007.

Davidsons Homes at Houlton will offer a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes for a variety of buyers. There is currently a choice of three, four and five-bedroom houses available to buy at Houlton View.

Simon Tyler, Sales Director for Davidsons Homes South Midlands, said: “Davidsons Homes has been involved in the redevelopment of the Rugby Radio Station site since the beginning, with work starting on our first homes here in 2016.

“Since then, we’ve provided 215 new homes for people looking to live within this new village. Houlton is transforming a landmark site into a thriving new community set amid acres of open space, with access to first-class facilities on the doorstep.

“With plans approved and construction starting on our third phase of homes, and planning in progress for the fourth, we are committed to providing new homes in Rugby well into the future.”

Prices for the new homes available at Houlton View currently start from £292,995, with more homes due to be released soon.
