Garden rooms, adaptable garages and flexible office spaces are just some of the ways in which Davidsons Homes has responded to the rise in homeworking over the past year.
The developer, which builds new homes across the Midlands, has witnessed a growing demand from buyers for home offices, more living space and faster internet speeds since the start of the first national lockdown.
As well as introducing a garden room – a versatile space which can be used as a study, gym or hobby room – at some of its developments, the housebuilder now ensures that two superfast broadband options are available at each of its sites.
Simon Tyler, Sales Director at Davidsons Homes South Midlands, said: “The pandemic has hugely accelerated the shift towards homeworking. Many of our buyers are now part of rapidly growing remote workforces, and it’s important this trend is reflected in the design and build of our homes.
“The garden room is a novel feature which we devised during the first national lockdown, in response to the very specific circumstances of that time, when most people were effectively confined to their homes. The rooms come fully insulated – with flooring and electricity included – so they are an ideal study space but can be used for leisure purposes too, whether that’s a home gym or a music or hobby room.
“Having a workspace which is separate from the rest of the house clearly appeals to some homeowners. A number of our customers have asked us not to install doors on their garages so they can fit windows instead and convert their garage into an office.
“We have also considered how we can incorporate the needs of homeworkers into the design of our future homes. The showhomes at our forthcoming developments will be designed with shared office spaces to demonstrate how our properties can accommodate such requirements.
“Access to superfast broadband has long been a high priority for housebuyers, but it has become even more important over the past year. As well as providing our customers with two superfast broadband options at all our developments, we also offer optional CAT 5 and CAT 6 cabling to be installed to data points in the home, which generally provides a faster and more reliable connection than WiFi.”
Davidsons Homes South Midlands is currently building at a variety of locations, including Irthlingborough, Rushden, Meppershall, Hanslope, Rugby and Market Harborough.
