Plans approved for 258 homes and new cricket ground in Ely

East Cambridgeshire District Council has granted planning permission for 258 new homes to be built in Ely.

The properties are to be delivered by Linden Homes, which is part of the Vistry Group, on a 16.11-acre parcel of land off Lynn Road to the north of the city.

The plans were approved on November 3rd, and form part of the wider North Ely development, which is set to bring 1,200 new homes and a range of community facilities to the city over the coming years.

Linden Homes will provide 212 private homes and 46 affordable properties for rent or shared ownership at Willow Woods, including a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom houses and apartments.

In line with the planning agreement for the development, Linden Homes will be delivering new ECB-approved cricket pitches and a pavilion which will be adopted by Ely Cricket Club.

A country park and trim trail facilities which span the length of the development, as well as an off-site cycleway, will also be provided by Linden Homes.

Verity Macmahon, land director for Vistry East Midlands, said: “This planning approval will enable us to bring 258 much-needed new homes to this part of Ely.

“Named after the material used to make cricket bats, Willow Woods has been chosen as the development’s marketing name to honour the cricket pitch we will be constructing at the site.

“Forming part of the wider neighbourhood being created at North Ely, residents at Willow Woods will benefit from a multitude of facilities and be within walking distance of Ely’s historic city centre.

“Now that our plans have been given the go-ahead by the local authority, we are looking forward to putting the first spade in the ground and getting construction work underway.”

Linden Homes intends to begin construction work at Orchards Green in December 2021, with the first homes due to be completed in late summer 2022.

Linden Homes is currently building new homes near Ely at its Laithwaite Gardens development in Sutton. For more information, go to lindenhomes.co.uk/eastmidlands
