For M. Michel Bau of Garbsen in Lower Saxony in Germany, the Doosan DX255LC-5 crawler excavator is the ideal all-purpose machine for all the different types of demolition and earthmoving work the company undertakes.
The Doosan DX255LC-5 crawler excavator is also used in many ways by the associated recycling company, Michel Recycling. The high available power combined with cost efficiency and high driver comfort make the machine very popular with operators and management alike.
This explains why Michel has just placed an order for a fourth DX255LC-5 to expand the company’s construction equipment fleet, which is entirely composed of Doosan machines. Supporting this is the excellent relationship with the local Doosan dealer, Atlas Hannover Baumaschinen, and the long-standing satisfaction Michel has with Doosan products that have made them the first choice for the company.
Size Makes the Difference
At 25 tonne, the size of the DX255LC-5 is ideal for the various types of work undertaken at Michel. “Both in demolition and earthworks, the DX255LC-5 is very versatile. Although it is quite compact, it still has exceptional performance in its class. It is also easy to transport,” explains company founder, Marvin Michel. Altogether, the Michel fleet consists entirely of Doosan machines – the three DX255LC-5s, a Doosan DX170W-5 wheeled excavator and a Doosan DL300LC-3 wheel loader.
If a larger machine is needed, Michel simply rents it from Atlas Hannover Baumaschinen. Recently, for example, when a 33,000 m² area had to be cleared in preparation for a construction site, Michel hired a crawler excavator and a wheel loader as back-up. This meant that the work could be completed on schedule within three weeks.
Marvin Michel said: “The fact that we rely completely on Doosan for our machines is not only due to the good partnership with Atlas Hannover Baumaschinen, which has existed for around 10 years, but also because of our positive experience with the machines. A very low number of faults and high reliability combined with low fuel consumption and easy, comfortable operation make the machines very popular with our drivers.“
All of the excavators are equipped with the necessary safety equipment required for demolition work. In addition, the company has many different attachments in use – from pulverizers, shears and hydraulic hammers to sorting grabs. A container service with its own skip loader and various mobile, crushing and sorting plants as well as a service vehicle for in-house and third-party repairs complete the range of services available from Michel.
The Doosan DX255LC-5 Excavator
The heart of the DX255LC-5 excavator is the proven Doosan DL06P turbocharged six-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine. The DL06P engine delivers 141 kW (192 HP) of power at 1900 rpm. Depending on the equipment being used, its operating weight is around 25.5 tonne with a width of 3000 mm (narrow version) and 3200 mm (standard version). The Smart Power Control (SPC) system is standard equipment on all LC-5 models. It monitors motor and pump performance and limits unnecessary power use depending on whether the work to be done is heavy or light.
