Interiors | Space saving pocket doors

David Saxby, Senior Category Manager at online supplier IronmongeryDirect, runs through some of the pocket doors options that could be used when space is at a premium.

Sliding or pocket doors offer a range of benefits to a property that lacks space, or where there is a need to adjoin two rooms fluidly. Whilst growing ever more popular in Europe, it seems the UK market is yet to embrace the hinge door alternative to the same extent as our continental neighbours.

On example is the KLÜG Barn Strap Sliding Door. This door offers a smooth sliding option and an aesthetically pleasing alternative for interior timber doors. Available in a rustic traditional barn style, but in a modern finish, it can help to bring a sense of character to a property. The door system is easy to install and can be used with doors as heavy as 100kg.

“By installing a glass pocket door in an en-suite or utility users can create a bigger and brighter feel, as well as providing more room for sanitary ware.”

Another option is the Eclisse pocket door. It features a self-centring door guide and self-locking horizontals, allowing for an easy installation. The steel framework takes the place of the studwork and the doors are hung to the top track, providing the benefit of using any appropriately sized standard door with the Eclisse system.

En-suite option
The Eclisse glass pocket door can be used to create extra space in an en-suite arrangement. It features a frameless glass door and smooth sliding action, and has a fully tempered 8 or 10mm glass door for safety – with a satin finish for privacy.

An option for room dividers, en-suites and closets, the Klug Ultra Pocket Door provides an alternative to the conventional hinged door. The door features quick release hangers, enabling easy removal if needed. A pocket door kit includes a universal header, support studs, rubber bumper, door guides, screws and nails, saving installers time hunting for each product separately.
