Work starts on £3.5 million development in North Yorkshire

Social housing landlord, WDH has started work on a new £3.5 million development to provide more affordable housing in Hellifield, near Skipton, North Yorkshire.

A mixture of 23 modern, two and three-bedroom homes will be available for affordable rent and shared ownership, with building work due to complete by the end of this year.

The development, named The Gables, is situated on farmland on the outskirts of Hellifield village which provides a full range of everyday facilities and great transport links to the rest of Yorkshire and Lancashire. The properties will be developed using £1,665,000 funding from the Homes England Wave 2 programme.

Sue Young, Director of Investment at WDH, said: “The Gables has a range of property types and tenure options that will help to give people more affordable options of renting or getting on the property ladder.

“Prospective customers and tenants will have a range of modern living options to consider, close to local amenities with excellent transport links, perfect for families and professionals.

“The development is a positive step towards achieving our target of creating 500 new homes this year.”

The development is the second time WDH has built outside of the Wakefield district and highlights the social housing landlord’s commitment to delivering homes where they are needed.

Andy Wallhead, Chief Executive of WDH, said: “This is a great opportunity for WDH to expand our horizons and create positive relationships with other local authorities while increasing our housing stock, providing much needed affordable homes outside the Wakefield area.
