Redrow, together with Housing Association, Peabody, have begun work on a collection of new apartments at Pontoon Reach, E15 part of London’s Royal Docks.
The scheme will deliver 295 homes, comprising a mix of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
The partners recently broke ground at the site at a breaking ground ceremony and construction is now underway.
The Royal Docks, which first opened in 1855 to allow large vessels to travel further upriver, is currently undergoing regeneration following the designation of the area as an Enterprise Zone in 2010. Together Redrow and Peabody are converting a former brownfield site on North Woolwich Road, which has been vacant since the closure of an Esso Service station, into new homes.
Mark Parker, Managing Director at Redrow London, commented: “We are excited to be starting work at our Royal Docks site. This area of London is currently undergoing a huge transformation. The £314 million regeneration which is taking place over the next five years has the potential to generate more than £5million in investment over the next two decades, and it’s fantastic to be a part of it.
“The joint venture with Peabody further highlights our commitment to delivering new homes for Londoners as we look to deliver more homes in key regeneration areas across the capital.”
Debbie Combs, Director of Sales & Marketing at Peabody, commented: “Peabody aims to start around 2,500 new homes in the next 12 months and we’re pleased to be starting on-site at Royal Docks. Working with Redrow, the Mayor of London and the London Borough of Newham, this important scheme will deliver nearly 300 much-needed new homes. Pontoon Reach will be a great addition to this exciting regeneration area.”
The new scheme, Pontoon Reach, is the first joint venture between Redrow and Peabody.
