Bellway has begun construction work on 194 homes at Beaulieu in Chelmsford. Detailed plans for the development were approved by Chelmsford City Council in January.
The homes are being built on 12.1 acres of land which makes up Parcel W of the Beaulieu consortium site, located off Essex Regiment Way.
Bellway will build 142 private homes, including two to four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments. The remaining 52 properties will be affordable homes, to be made available to local people through shared ownership or low-cost rent.
Jenny Walker, Sales Director for Bellway Essex, said: “Beaulieu is an important extension to Chelmsford, providing around 3,000 homes altogether.
“Bellway Essex has a long heritage of creating new communities in the area. Our divisional office is based in the city and we are committed to providing the homes and infrastructure Chelmsford needs.
“Beaulieu has proven to have broad appeal as the new community becomes increasingly established. We are pleased to be building part of this new neighbourhood and to announce that work is now underway on site.
“Bellway’s homes at Beaulieu will be from The Artisan Collection, our flagship range of homes which brings together traditional craftsmanship and modern design.”
Bellway plans to release its first homes for sale at Beaulieu towards the end of this year.
