An alternative to steel road plates has been recognised for its qualities at Preventica 2015, a health and safety industry exhibition held in Toulouse in June. The Oxford Plastic Systems solution received the Innovation Award in the Site Safety category.
Oxford Plastics modular road plate system is made from composite materials that can be linked together by two people in a few minutes, eliminating the need for specialist lifting equipment. The solution offers a safe, flexible and user-friendly alternative to using steel road plates to cover trenches on roads.
Road plates ensure the safety of contractors, pedestrians and vehicles during utility, cabling and maintenance projects. 3,000 units have been deployed as part of the Mayor of London’s Keep London Moving initiative.
Oxford Plastics claim its road plates are easier and safer to manoeuvre than heavy steel plates while remaining strong enough to withstand the weight of a 44,000kg truck. Each section weighs 42kg for safe and easy installation, while the plates’ anti-slip surface provides pedestrian access.
