A solution to reduce, or even eliminate, kerb damage on housebuilding sites has been launched by Kerb Guards.
Kerb damage remains an issue for many housebuilders. With roadways, pavement and kerbs often required from the initial stages of a development, all these elements will be vulnerable, and with construction traffic and delivery vehicles regularly using the access points to a site, invariably a level of damage occurs. This means kerbs may shift in position, crack or split altogether. Not only is this unsightly, it also presents a health and safety issue – especially if the damage is in the vicinity of a show homes or other areas to which the general public might have access.
Replacing kerbs can be a time-consuming and costly undertaking – plus it means more waste to dispose of and more products to purchase. Some suggest that many builders allow for the replacement of anything from 50% to 100% of the kerbs on site during completion of a housing development.
One solution recently launched to tackle this issue is the KerbGuards system. These re-usable kerb protectors absorb impacts and shield kerbs from damage by telehandlers, diggers, dumpers and delivery lorries. Made from heavy-duty 100% recycled PVC, they can be fixed in position by anchor brackets, or haunched in with temporary tarmac.
Available in two lengths, 400mm for curved areas and 900mm for straights, KerbGuards feature an anti-slip tread pattern have a durable 35mm top section to absorb impacts. They are available in both yellow and black – allowing a highly visible solution – or can be ordered in bespoke colours, to match corporate branding. Further personalisation can be achieved with the addition of a company name and/or logo.
Available from Kerb Guards Ltd – an independent sister company to Ground-Guards Ltd, a supplier of plastic ground protection trackways – the solution was recently recognised with a Silver award for innovation at the Plantworx event in Peterborough.
