Construction starts on 60+ affordable Stonewater homes on former garage site in Yeovil.
Construction is underway on a new £5.8 million three-phase development of over 60 affordable homes in West Hendford, Yeovil.
The homes are being developed by social housing provider Stonewater which is currently also building 24 affordable rental apartments at Queensway Place in Yeovil town centre.
Stonewater is working with Halsall Construction and South Somerset District Council to deliver the new homes. When completed, the development will provide a mix of 42, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes for affordable rent and nine two- and three-bedroom homes for shared-ownership. The new houses will also have their own private gardens.
Stonewater is financing the development with additional £748,000 funding support from the Council’s housing development programme and also funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
“With rising house prices forcing residents, particularly young people and key workers, out of the area, these high quality homes will provide a choice of housing tenures which meet local needs at a price people can afford,” says Joanna Barnard, Development Officer for Stonewater. “We’re delighted to be starting construction and look forward to working to seeing the development take shape.”
