Redrow takes on 10 prospective site managers as part of scheme backed by NHBC.
The first scheme of its kind to be backed by NHBC, Redrow’s trainee site assistant programme is proving to be a success, with the first two cohorts of trainees already progressing well through the two-year course.
The housebuilder has just taken on another round of 10 recruits, who now train ‘on the job’ will while working towards formal qualifications in partnership with NHBC and South Staffordshire College.
Participants work towards a BTEC Level 3 in Construction & the Built Environment, developed by South Staffordshire College, and a NVQ Level 3 in Contracting, developed alongside NHBC, each delivered in-house by Redrow.
A range of candidates have been promoted onto the course including apprentices, labourers and forklift drivers.
Karen Jones, HR director for Redrow Homes, said: “We’re really pleased with how our first two groups of recruits onto the course are progressing and it’s fantastic to be able to take on a third group of trainees. We’re giving participants the skills and knowledge required to manage our building sites in the future, while they are also gaining professional qualifications.
“It’s vital that we continue to develop employees through tailor-made training programmes such as this to ensure a skilled workforce for years to come.”
Trainees make up around 15% of Redrow’s direct employees and the company is looking to maintain that as its workforce grows.
