Housing Minister visits Beaulieu

Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Brandon Lewis MP visited Beaulieu in Chelmsford on Monday 15th February to view the progress of the work which will include up to 3,600 new homes and new community facilities.

Joined by senior representatives from joint venture partners Countryside and L&Q, the Housing Minister viewed the show homes within the first phases of new homes at Beaulieu Heath and Beaulieu Chase, as well as a tour of the overall scheme and the range of community facilities that are planned.

Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said: “We’ve got the country building again with the number of new homes up 25% over the last year, so it’s great to be here today to see some of those new homes on the ground. I’m sure this development will be a great success, delivering a new community that local hard-working families can be proud to call their home.”

Chris Bladon, Managing Director of Countryside’s New Homes and Communities Eastern Region comments: “We were delighted to welcome the Housing Minister to Beaulieu, a significant new project for Chelmsford. We have already made extensive progress on our build programme, with the first phase of 49 new homes at Beaulieu Heath nearing completion and our second phase of 184 new homes recently launched at Beaulieu Chase. Construction is also due to start early next month on Beaulieu Square, a new neighbourhood centre that will include a Sainsbury’s Local store, day nursery, restaurant, community centre, health centre and apartments.”

Two primary schools and a secondary school are planned, the first of these – a 420-place primary school – was recently given the go ahead. Sports facilities and community, health and retail amenities will also be developed.

There is also investment into transport for Beaulieu – the scheme includes a site for a new railway station on the East Anglian main line, as well as a new relief road connecting Beaulieu to the A12.
