On Monday 23rd November, renowned housebuilder Berkeley Homes officially handed over the second phase of its stunning Edenbrook Country Park in Fleet, Hampshire to Hart District Council.
Phase Two at Edenbrook Country Park consists of distinctive biodiverse natural habitats including grasslands, wetlands and stunning open meadows, all connected through a network of footpaths and cycle-ways. Three open ponds are dispersed across the country park, some with dipping platforms and boardwalks, as well as a selection of calmer streams and seasonal ponds for visitors to take a moment to relax. Amenities also include play spaces and a BMX track. Hart District Council will take care of the estate parkland indefinitely on behalf of, and in partnership with, the residents at Edenbrook Village and wider local community.
Harry Lewis, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes (Southern), commented: “This year has highlighted the importance of making green space accessible to everyone. The 82 acres at Edenbrook Country Park is a fantastic local asset and has already become a popular venue for people of all ages. This project shows that homebuilding can be a force for good. Working closely with Hart District Council and local stakeholders, we have been able to deliver a really valuable amenity for new and existing communities, connecting people and nature and improving health and wellbeing, as well as enhancing the area’s biodiversity”.
Berkeley Homes has been working alongside Hart District Council for 12 years to create the stunning country park, after development began in 2008.
Councillor David Neighbour, Leader of Hart District Council, said: “Hart’s Countryside Service has been working with Berkeley Homes since the development’s inception to create the country park. We are proud of what we have managed to achieve for the community and hope residents will continue to enjoy this space. We are looking forward to continuing to improve these facilities over the coming years.”
The country park has not been a single job for Berkeley Homes, but a team effort. Sharing a joint vision and a collaborative end goal, across the past 12 years, Berkeley has worked closely alongside Hart District Council, Natural England and the local Fleet community to create a country park for local residents and local wildlife to harmoniously enjoy together. The low-grade private farmland and electricity pylons that once stood in its place have made way for a sustainable environment with plenty of ecological value that has carefully maintained wildlife habitats. The new country park has also protected ground nesting birds in the area, as Berkeley created a new suitable green space for recreation (SANG), to abide by the guidelines of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) initiative. Berkeley also gifted land to Thames Water, so that they could build a 30-metre underground water pumping station to try and alleviate foul water flooding for the local area.
Alongside Hart District Council, Berkeley Homes created Edenbrook Country Park as part of their Edenbrook Village development, a new sustainable housing development with over 600 homes, all powered by a vital water management system run by the ponds and streams in the country park.
Built to the highest architectural standard, and designed to blend in with the natural surroundings, the homes at Edenbrook Village are perfect for modern-day lifestyles.
