Leading homebuilder Barratt Homes has hired an apprentice to help him broaden his knowledge of bricklaying in Lancashire.
Matthew Williams (17), from Swinton, is currently studying Bricklaying NVQ Level 2 at Stephenson College, Leicester, spending his time on block release working at Barratt Homes’ Bowland Meadow development in Longridge.
Matthew said: “I was drawn to Barratt Homes as my brother has worked for them for 14 years as a bricklayer so I know it was an excellent company to work for.
“I’m really enjoying meeting new people, learning my trade and getting paid whilst I learn.”
Matthew said: “I’m looking forward to completing my apprenticeship and seeing where it leads me.
“I’m not too sure where I can see myself in the future, but to start I’d like to be the best bricklayer in the family.”
The Barratt Homes apprenticeship scheme means that students can learn while they earn with the leading housebuilder.
As an apprentice with the five star developer, there will always be support along with learning since many of its employees have come from an apprenticeship programme, there will always be career advice available.
