Blending PropTech with design to bring accessible, innovative interior design to developers and housebuilders, RoomLab is on a mission to transform the traditional showhome and carbon-copy furniture packages.
Offering professional advice and exceptional creativity from trained industry experts for a fraction of the cost of a traditional interior designer, RoomLab is a remote interior design service, communicating almost entirely through their custom-built website – but with a personal edge.
Suzann Bozorgi, founder of RoomLab, explains; “We carefully pair a member of our highly qualified and diverse team with a client, based on style, experience and knowledge of the target market. This means we are able to confidently design anything from a single room for an affordable apartment, through to an entire scheme for a luxury townhouse.
“Showhomes are such an important marketing tool – we want to show the amazing results that can be achieved through flexible working relationships with clients, at any budget.”
Along with working remotely, the strong relationships RoomLab enjoy with a wide range of furnishing brands and suppliers allows them to deliver a completely unique interiors scheme in a matter of weeks and offer a best price promise on all products. Working to the client’s budget and the development’s precise dimensions, the scheme is designed virtually, with clients presented with detailed, lifelike visualisations of their showhome. Once drawings are signed off, Suzann and her team arrange quick delivery of the products – and will always plan a visit to add the final finishing touches.
With the idea born from a desire to make interior design affordable to everyone, Suzann and her team began working directly with the consumer market in 2017 and have recently begun to apply the model to housebuilders and developers of all tenures. But if their clients’ buyers would like help with putting a personal stamp on their new home, RoomLab will still be on hand to assist.
“We can offer the whole bundle – it’s similar to a furniture package, but with an unbelievable amount of choice. The connections we have with our suppliers means we can give both developers and their buyers access to unique products that they simply couldn’t get on the high street, and curate them into beautiful, livable rooms and homes.”
It’s this aspect that’s helped to cement their relationship with family-run developer Go Homes, who are currently offering all new purchasers of one of their Essex developments a significant interior design incentive to use with RoomLab. The design team have finished work on several showhomes and are now liaising directly with buyers to transform their new build houses into homes.
Rees Hitchcock, Head of Brand for Go Homes, explains; “Suzann and her team have been the perfect fit for us from the get go. They are efficient, professional, and above all, deliver a fantastic – and unique – service, that fits seamlessly into the Go Homes business model. I wanted to make sure we were able to offer something different, and not ‘just another interior design package’, that can feel quite impersonal.
“A lot of our buyers are moving from rented accommodation or have been living with parents, and the prospect of buying all new furnishings is not only daunting, but also expensive! We’ve had fantastic feedback on the interiors incentive so far. They’re helping both us, and our buyers, turn new houses into new homes”.
With over 25 freelance designers working on different projects at any one time, RoomLab has the flexibility to manage multiple schemes of varying sizes at once, carefully pairing designers and clients based on tastes and style, which are then managed by a core in-house team. Flexibility is something they’re able to offer their staff too.
Suzann comments; “A lot of interior designers I know struggle to maintain a full-time role when they have children, or chose to move out of London. RoomLab gives them the opportunity and flexibility to do something they love – something they’re amazing at – from home. It’s allowed us to attract the very best interior design talent.”
