More than £6 million will be invested in community facilities in Witham under Redrow plans for new homes.
The housebuilder has acquired a 36 hectare parcel of land at Lodge Farm on Hatfield Road, which benefits from outline planning permission for up to 750 new homes.
Along with the new homes there are plans for a new primary school, enterprise centre and allotments.
Carl Atkinson, land director for Redrow Homes (Eastern), said: “Lodge Farm is allocated for housing under the adopted Braintree District Council Core Strategy and we know from the high volume of enquiries we’ve received for our other Essex developments that there’s strong demand for new homes across the county.”
The development, known as The Mulberries, will offer 525 private sale homes including a mix of properties ranging from two-bedroom apartments to substantial five-bedroom homes. Under the plans, 30% of the overall number of dwellings would be affordable.
Carl added: “We’ll also be investing more than £6 million into the local area. The lion’s share of that funding will be allocated to education, but we’ll also be contributing to health care, transport and cycle improvements, a community hall and sports facilities.”
Education will receive £4.8 million, with almost £480,000 allocated for transport, £350,000 for a community hall. Health will be allocated £246,000 and sports £225,000 with £20,000 set aside for town centre improvements.
The first homes at The Mulberries are due to be released for sale in early 2017.
