Established in 2017 to predominantly operate in the UK’s ‘Build to Rent’ sector, Brickland Limited is making rapid progress on a nine-storey, 200-apartment property in a buoyant area of Liverpool, turning to the fabrication service offered by Marley Plumbing & Drainage. Produced using the manufacturer’s versatile HDPE system, the supply of bespoke storey height soil stack units helps to save time and reduce costs.
M&E consultancy Futureserv, which has vast experience in the UK residential sector, proposed the use of the HDPE system to Brickland as the developer, and main contractor ISG.
Across the building’s three wings, the installed stacks will be responsible for taking waste from bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens and utility rooms within the 200 apartments. Supplied via specialist merchant, BSS, the installation of the three-metre tall stacks on site went smoothly, making use of electrofusion and push fit connections for the final assembly. At the bottom of the stacks, the soil system exits the building across the basement soffit, where the HDPE pipework and fittings’ inherent strength and durability will protect the system from physical damage.
Regional Director of Futureserve, Mike Travis, commented: “Our building services design portfolio extends across all sectors, with vast experience in the UK residential sector. We have specified Marley products on a variety of past projects. Making use of the prefabricated HDPE stacks has two main advantages: fewer man hours required on site to complete the installation and a greatly reduced risk of leaks, as the majority of the work is carried out under factory-controlled conditions. In addition, depending on the scale of the project, it should also translate into overall cost savings, with greater certainty of outcome.”
James Scully, the Commercial Manager for Brickland Limited, added: “While this was the first scheme on which we have implemented this system from Marley, we have been really happy with the system and know our consultants are also. We have a pipeline of national projects all aimed at the build-to-rent market, with our next scheme to market being in Sheffield; where we are again utilising Marley’s prefabricated soil-stacks.”
The fabrication service offered by Marley Plumbing & Drainage provides bespoke HDPE or PVCu soil and waste stacks, fabricated in line with the project’s individual requirements and technical drawings, created by the manufacturer’s experienced technical team. Marley’s HDPE range is certified to BS EN 1519 and will cope with temperature variations of -40°C to +100°C, making it ideal for external as well as internal installations. The pipes are tempered, having undergone a heat treatment after extrusion, resulting in less shrinkage when cooled down from high operational temperatures. This creates less stress on joints, resulting in a longer life for the pipe system.
Final completion of the Blundell Street project is expected early this year.
