David Wilson Homes’ Basingstoke development Gillies Meadow features new homes that are have been designed to last buyers a lifetime.
The development, located on Park Prewett Road, has homes that have been designed to accommodate the needs of the modern homebuyers and include ‘Lifetime Homes’ features, to cater for residents throughout different milestones in their lives.
Features include larger doorways, making it is easier to get a pram or wheelchair in and out of the house and level access paths leading into the homes to make it a smooth transition.
Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Along with the standard trademark of quality that come with all David Wilson properties, these homes have been especially designed to include extra features that add to the comfort and suitability of a home.
“The homes were all designed to support the changing needs of individuals and families and ensure that they have a practical home to live in throughout their lives.”
The downstairs of every house with the Lifetime Homes standard has also been designed so that if someone in the home cannot use the stairs, one of the rooms can be modified and turned into a bedroom.
The downstairs cloakroom also has the potential to be adapted to include shower facilities with handrails and the rooms are large enough to accommodate a hoist. This also helps homeowners to save money at a later date if someone becomes disabled as it will cost much less to adapt the home.
Other Lifetime Homes features at Gillies Meadow include: outside lights next to all main doors to help illuminate entrances, wider parking spaces and driveways to help make getting in and out of vehicles easier, and service controls including electrical switches and sockets, TV, telephone, computer points, central heating thermostat and mains water stop taps at a height and distance easily reachable for people with low mobility.
