Hill launches cutting edge sustainable development featuring 208 ‘eco’ homes
Located within Great Kneighton on Cambridge’s southern fringe, Hill’s new development, Virido, will comprise 208 eco homes offering residents a more sustainable lifestyle in a new neighbourhood.
Virido marries high quality sustainable design with community living, offering a collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments and duplexes and three and four bedroom townhouses, which benefit from sustainable technologies.
The development includes 104 homes for private sale, which are now available to purchase.
The development is a modular design, meaning that it is made up from a ‘kit’ of different home designs. These will be assembled to form eight separate and unique Quads, designed with brick and black timber exteriors. Each will feature their own individual palette of materials, colours and finishes. The special timber cladding is baked at a high temperature in order to increase its life span and preserve its appearance.
Many of the technologies used in Virido were trialled as part of Hill’s ‘Be Zero’ Concept House experiment, in which the competition-winning Rayner family lived in a prototype Virido home for a year, bill and rent free, to test-drive various sustainability features.
The family tested the eco-home’s sustainable technologies over the course of twelve months, which provided vital information for the project team designing the main Virido development.
