Award winning planning consultancy, Terence O’Rourke, has secured approval for 65 homes for service veterans at the Former Erskine Barracks site in Wilton.
The site will also include a café, shop and crèche. The approval has been secured on behalf of regeneration and development specialists Our Enterprise.
Working with Thrive Architects, the scheme forms the next phase of the wider redevelopment of the brownfield site, alongside a mix of market and affordable housing being delivered by Redrow Homes, for which Terence O’Rourke and Thrive gained permission in October 2014.
The project is the creation of Our Enterprise who, in partnership with Redrow and Wilton Community Land Trust, formed the Community Interest Company “Our Wilton” – a social legacy company, which will oversee the long-term management and maintenance of the development and is directly responsible for ensuring that training and employment services and facilities are provided for service veterans on the site within a new Enterprise Hub building. A new charity, Our Wilton Trust will provide the veterans’ accommodation at the site.
At the core of the Our Enterprise ethos is the desire to build communities for local people that ensure long-term social return. The development will be an asset to Wilton, providing much needed accommodation for veterans in an area with strong connections to the Armed Forces. It is hoped that the first veterans will be moving in around July 2017.
