Miller Homes is partnering with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to offer its Interior Design students the chance to design a room in one of its latest show homes in Sandbach.
Students will work alongside Miller Homes’ appointed interior designer ‘Killer 5’ to present their concepts to a panel of experts who will judge the students on their ingenuity, innovation and interpretation of the brief.
This collaboration means that the students will have access to work experience, whilst having the chance to work alongside accredited interior designers who will be able to offer knowledge and guidance to the students. The UCLan students will be in competition with each other to design the room to a brief provided by Miller Homes.
The concepts will be presented to a panel of experts, including the interior designers, Miller Homes representatives and the students’ own University lecturer Pamela Eccles, in an X-factor judging-style set up. The winner of the competition will then go on to work closely with the interior designers and observe their concept coming to life in the Miller Homes show home located in Sandbach.
Sam Johnson, Sales Director for Miller Homes in the North West commented; “It’s a privilege to be able to provide such valuable work experience to the students at UCLan. Miller Homes is committed to the communities in which we have developments and it is wonderful to be working with a local University and their students to take this initiative forward. We look forward to seeing the student’s own interpretations of the design brief and to see it come to life in one of our show homes.”
Miller Homes will be working with a number of Universities for the competition across the UK and Scotland over the coming months and hope this will open the door to other potential collaborations between the company and local educational institutions.
Pamela Eccles, Interior Design lecturer at UCLan added; “This is such an exciting opportunity for the students to get their teeth into some relevant and tangible work experience. Universities are always keen for their students to seek as much work experience as possible and working alongside a well-respected company such as Miller Homes is a unique opportunity for these students. Needless to say they are grabbing the chance with both hands!”
