David Wilson Homes Southern provided the children of Floreat Montague Park Primary School with a valuable lesson in site safety after hosting a visit to its Montague Park development on London Road in Wokingham.
Simon Kirk, David Wilson Homes Southern’s Technical Director, led 29 Year 1 school children on an educational tour to encourage staying safe on building sites. This visit is now being followed by a site safety poster competition, which aims to warn other children about the dangers of a building site.
The pupils also received an insight into the construction process, as they were able to view the newly built homes at different stages and had the opportunity to ask questions throughout their visit.
Simon Kirk said: “With many of our developments being located near schools, we recognise it’s our responsibility to promote site safety and organising these visits is the perfect way to implement this.
“It’s extremely important to highlight the dangers to children from a young age and this type of visit gives children a ‘hands on’ experience of a building site and really helps the lessons stick in the minds of the children.”
Stephanie Lang, Teacher at Floreat Montague Primary School, said: “Our children are able to see the progress of the new homes every day on their way to and from school. They were delighted at the opportunity to get a closer look and learn the site safety rules ahead of the upcoming poster competition.”
Floreat Montague Park is a brand new school located on William Heelas Way at the development.
