Leading housebuilder Redrow announces that it will be expanding its presence in England by opening a new Southern division.
The strategic decision comes as demand for homes in London’s commuter belt continues to grow. The new division is expected to be operational before the end of the 2022 financial year.
Covering Surrey and East and West Sussex, the new Southern division will sit separately to the housebuilder’s existing Southern Counties and South East divisions and will be headed up by recently appointed Managing Director, Rod Martin, former Divisional Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey for this area.
At maturity, the new division aims to build 600 new homes, annually, creating almost 2,000 new jobs for local people.
Redrow’s latest research into how consumer trends have changed as result of the Covid-19 pandemic revealed that for almost half of Britons (44%), the amount of outside space will be the biggest priority when moving to their next home, while a third (32%) will be prioritising the amount of floor space they have.
These trends mean more people are heading to London’s commuter belt to areas with excellent connectivity and greater availability of private outdoor space. According to the latest government figures, sales transactions have increased by 26% and 14% across Surrey and Sussex, respectively.
