Rugby-based housing developer Mulberry has appointed two new building industry experts to help oversee the production of its top-quality new homes.
Previously a Commercial Director for a small Tamworth-based homebuilder, David Morris (header image) joined the growing team at Mulberry as Head of Commercial in mid-February.
Working his way up the corporate ladder, the father-of-two from Witherley began his construction career as a quantity surveyor and has since accumulated over 24-years of industry experience.
David, 45, said: “I am thoroughly enjoying my new role at Mulberry, as it has enabled me to join a forward-thinking team of hard-working individuals where I feel my opinion is always valued.
“As Head of Commercial, my daily routine consists of managing the commercial team, obtaining new materials, cost control, liaising between departments, staffing, and routine approvals.
“It is very refreshing to see how great the team is at resolving problems. One of the biggest challenges I have to face in my working life is the inevitable emergence of additional unbudgeted costs, which is why I’ve been working hard to develop new strategies to prevent the future occurrence of these costs.
“Mulberry is an excellent company to work for, and I am grateful to see that the team has been able to provide a safe working environment during the pandemic to enable the great work to continue.
“Not only is Mulberry a very reputable builder, but I believe there’s a great scope for internal career progression too. My goal is to one day achieve directorship at the company and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”
With a total of 34-years working both nationally and internationally in the construction field, Production Director Phil Marshall is bringing all the tricks of his trade to his new role at Mulberry.
Derbyshire-born Phil began his career in the industry as a groundworker, constructing roads and engaging in large construction projects across the UK, until he was appointed as a bricklayer within the housebuilding field.
Phil most recently worked as an Operations Director for a top UK developer, and prior to that Phil spent two years working for Lendlease in Dubai.
His colourful background in the industry has enabled Phil to successfully develop his career in housebuilding, joining the growing team at Mulberry in April.
Phil, 50, said: “Coming from a PLC background, I have found Mulberry a refreshing change and a much more welcoming place to work with a more caring focus on customer delivery.
“Starting out in my new role, I was very excited about the prospect of working for an up-and-coming company with a clear vision for the future and desire to deliver a market leading product that is above and beyond industry standards.
“On a typical day, I deal with contractors, suppliers, and colleague’s customers. I’ve found that no two days are the same, with each day raising its own challenges to solve from the moment I leave the house to when I return.
“I enjoy problem solving and there are lots of challenges I have to face on a daily basis. I address and resolve these challenges by carefully listening to concerns and conducting open and honest discussions, making clear decisions which provide definitive answers.
“The global pandemic has created a whole raft of challenges with regards to an entirely different health and safety approach to site set up, build and delivery as well as supplier management and customer relations. However, it has been an interesting and exciting time to develop new procedures to help ensure that our customers and site workers can continue to work safely.
“In my short time at Mulberry I am very much enjoying my new role so far. My future goal is to continue furthering my career with a focus on developing home-grown teams that are consistently recognized as the very best in the industry.”
This year, Mulberry Homes is celebrating its 10th anniversary. To honour the occasion, the housebuilder is running a campaign in which each month it is donating £1000 to a different local charity or public organisation nearby to its developments. This follows the success of its Distinctly Local initiative, in which Mulberry Homes contributed over £10,000 to local charities and businesses throughout 2020.
