Chulmleigh’s new homes get green light

The first phase of 31 new homes at Ladywell Meadows in Chulmleigh have been given final approval by planners after the developers undertook extensive consultation with the local community.

The houses, which will be two, three and four bedroom properties and include affordable homes, are to be built on a site at Leigh Road by Tiverton based house building company Devonshire homes.  It is expected that at least 15 will be finished and occupied by the end of the year.

The company and their architects invited residents to three Design Together events to allow them to say what design aspects they did and did not like about the current properties in the town so their preferred features could be reflected in the plans being put forward for the detailed planning permission. The end results included rendered and stone walls and some thatch.

Devonshire homes Managing Director, Steve Russell, commented: “We are delighted how people participated with us in our Design Together events.  It’s taken a while to reach this positive result but I believe the process has resulted in better designed homes which is always a main aspiration for our company. We can now get on with delivering housing for local people.”

Preliminary works have already commenced on site and a sales office will be set up in the Spring with a show home available for viewing early in the Summer.
