Structural Timber Association
The Structural Timber Association (STA) has released comprehensive guidance to assist in preventing moisture-related defects in structural timber buildings.
Aligned with the RIBA Plan of Work 2020, this guidance provides a systematic process for evaluating and mitigating the risk of moisture entrapment. By implementing these guidelines, all involved in structural timber projects can effectively manage risk and contribute to successful project outcomes.
Emphasizing the significance of a moisture management strategy for all buildings, the guidance recognizes that defects can stem from design, construction, and maintenance practices. Drawing on the experience of the STA Steering Group, it offers the practical guidance needed to connect the ideas of the design team with the outcomes of site installation. It encourages stakeholders to pause, assess, and respond appropriately to design considerations while emphasising the importance of vigilance during construction and the building’s lifespan to spot potential moisture-related issues.
