Construction of 31 new homes in Langland is due to start this July, Edenstone Homes has confirmed. The 3.2acre site is on the south eastern edge of the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the Langland Peninsula.
Reflecting local housing need, there will be 16 affordable homes and 15 private sale properties. Initially priority on homes at the development, known as The Meadows, will be given to buyers with a local link.
Land Director Richard Kelso explained: “As this is a sensitive site, due to its coastal location, we worked closely with the planning authority and Swansea councillors to ensure that the scheme integrates into the landscape and provides for local needs. House prices in Langland are amongst the highest in Wales. As such there’s a critical shortage of affordable housing in the area and so 51% of the development will be affordable. Eight of these will be available through intermediate tenure and eight for social rent through Coastal Housing, the registered social landlord.”
Full planning permission for the 31 homes was granted in November. Edenstone has submitted revised plans for some of the private sale properties to enable homeowners to make the most of sea views by moving the living space upstairs and positioning bedrooms at ground level.
The private sale homes will include a mix of three and four-bedroom properties, in a mix of detached and semi-detached designs.
