North East housebuilder Avant Homes has been granted planning permission by Sunderland City Council for a new £21.8m development as part of the local authority’s Seafront Regeneration Strategy.
Located off Lowry Road and just a stone’s throw away from the Seaburn seafront, the 8.19-acre development will feature 82 design-led homes, comprising a selection of Avant Homes’ high-quality two, three and four-bedroom housetypes. There will be 15 house designs to choose from with 10 per cent of homes affordable across the development.
Plans for the development, named Lowry Park, will sit alongside land currently earmarked for leisure developments such as STACK Seaburn, made up of shipping containers stacked together to create a vibrant entertainment and leisure destination already taking shape on the seafront, and a 40-bed inn with rooms from Inn Collection, set to open in 2021. This all forms part of the council’s plans to regenerate Seaburn and Roker.
Work on the Avant Homes development is set to commence in spring 2020, with showhomes expected to open in July and the first homes due to be ready for occupation in autumn this year. The overall build is expected to take three years and will create approximately 90 sales and construction jobs.
In addition to providing modern, high-quality homes for the area, Avant Homes will also invest almost £618,000 towards local education, a coastal ward contribution, the provision of open green spaces and a children’s play area.
Avant Homes North East regional director, Jennifer Tupman, said: “We’re very pleased that planning permission has been granted for this development, which benefits from an attractive location, appealing to a wide range of buyers.
“Lowry Park will not only help to deliver our strategic growth plans for the North East but also to create job opportunities and investment in the area, while also contributing to Sunderland City Council’s extensive regeneration plans for the coastal suburb.”
The development will feature Avant Homes’ very latest house designs and specification including everything buyers have come to expect from the housebuilder such as open-plan living spaces, bi-fold doors, floor-to-ceiling tiled bathrooms, exclusively-designed kitchens, and Hive Smart Energy Active Heating System, as standard.
Sunderland City Council leader, Councillor Graeme Miller, has welcomed the news. He said: “We have ambitious plans for the development of the city, creating stunning new places for people to live, work and play; Seaburn is a place that delivers on all fronts.
“We have a stunning seaside that we want to encourage more families to enjoy, and part of this has to be about attracting more people to live in the area. This scheme, as well as a number of developments that are coming forward from private sector housing partners keen to invest in Sunderland, shows the level of confidence that exists in the city right now. It’s a hugely exciting time for the city, with so much positive change, and this is yet another step forward for us.”
