Housebuilder Avant Homes has been granted planning permission to build 161 new homes on a £33m development in the County Durham village of Wingate.
The 15.3 acre site is adjacent to the Hart to Haswell walkway, a disused railway line designed by George Stephenson to move coal from the Durham coalfield to Hartlepool docks.
The properties being built include two, three and four-bedroom homes across 13 detached and semi-detached house designs, many complete with the developer’s new interior specification.
Avant Homes North East managing director, Scott Varley, said: “We are committed to continued investment in County Durham as part of our strategy to produce jobs and meet demand for much-needed homes here and across the North East. Wingate and the surrounding areas are hugely popular for homebuyers, offering a countryside lifestyle with excellent transport links to major cities. Combined with our ever-popular house designs and interior specification, I’m sure we will see high interest once homes become available.”
Construction has already begun on the development, with the first homes ready for occupation later in 2018.
