Work on a stunning new seaside community is underway, as ground is broken on Avant Homes’ new Seaburn scheme.
The North East housebuilder has started work on the construction of 82 new design-led homes, that will occupy a 8.19 acre site that sits behind the seafront’s developing leisure offer.
The first home is expected to be available for sale later this year, with all properties scheduled to be complete by 2023, of which 10 per cent are affordable
The council announced in July that it had exchanged contracts with Avant Homes, after planning for the development was granted in March 2020.
Located off Lowry Road and just a stone’s throw away from the Seaburn seafront, the development will deliver high-quality two, three and four-bedroom house-types, across 15 house designs, which features Avant Homes’ latest and most up-to-date specification. .
Avant Homes North East regional director, Jennifer Tupman, said: “Lowry Park will be an impressive development and as a Sunderland-based business we are very pleased to be playing a role in the wider regeneration of this part of the city.
“This landmark development will be a significant contribution to Sunderland City Council’s plans for this desirable seaside suburb alongside the leisure offer currently in development and we’re pleased to get groundworks underway and take the next step in bringing our very latest range of homes to buyers in the area.”
The development stands behind two exciting new leisure developments, STACK Seaburn – which opened on Friday September 4 – and the Seaburn Inn, award-winning Inn Collection Group’s new 40-bed inn with rooms, which is set to open in 2021.
Councillor Rebecca Atkinson, cabinet member for Dynamic City at Sunderland City Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see Avant get started on building a stunning new neighbourhood, that will add to Sunderland’s housing offer, creating an attractive new community close to our seaside.
“Plans for Seaburn have quickly moved ahead over the last few months, and I’m glad to see this – the latest in a line of significant improvements to the seaside – move forward. It’s part of a wider vision for a vibrant mixed-use community at Seaburn, that will ensure more people choose it as a place to live and play.”
The development will feature Avant Homes’ everything buyers have come to expect from the housebuilder such as open-plan living spaces, bi-fold doors, floor-to-ceiling tiled bathrooms and exclusively-designed kitchens, as standard.
In addition to providing modern, high-quality homes for the area, Avant Homes will also invest over £600,000 towards local education, a coastal warden contribution, the provision of open green spaces and a children’s play area. The overall build will also create opportunities for people in the city, with approximately 90 sales and construction jobs over the course of the three-year build project.
Sunderland is growing its reputation as a place to live. It has been named the ‘third richest city in the UK’ according to a report that looked at the assets the city has to offer versus the things that lead to a rich and fulfilled life. Sunderland was also named as the best city to live for under 30s, in a recent report by OneFamily. Housebuilders are investing in the city, with thousands of new dwellings set to be built in Sunderland by 2033; it’s all part of a wider vision for the city to transform its offer as a place to live work and play.
Based in Sunderland, Avant Homes North East is part of the Avant Homes Group, one of the leading private developers of residential property in the UK. The group currently has 58 developments across its five operating regions, 13 of which are in the North East stretching from Acomb near Hexham to Yarm in Teesside .
