More than £31,000 was raised for two worthy causes at Bewley Homes’ annual charity golf day, with almost 150 participants competing in the event.
Thirty-six teams took to the fairway at Sandford Springs Hotel and Golf Club in Kingsclere, in aid of Sebastian’s Action Trust and Guide Dogs. £5,000 of the proceeds will go towards sponsoring a guide dog, with the remainder to be donated to the Crowthorne children’s charity.
Mini competitions were held throughout the day including a putting challenge and a Hole in One contest on the 14th hole. The winner of the overall event was a team from Lite Speed Construction Systems, a masonry contractor based in Oxfordshire. Each of the team members was awarded a magnum of Berry Bros & Rudd’s Good Ordinary Claret.
The golf contest was followed by an evening dinner with 187 guests in attendance. The occasion featured a fundraising auction, with lots including a four-night stay at Le Grand Hermitage in Clermont L’Herault, a 4-Ball at Sunningdale Golf Club, and a Gun on a Shoot at Culden Faw Estate.
A raffle was also held, with winners taking home a gin experience from the Bombay Sapphire Distillery, plus lunch for two from the Wellington Arms in Baughurst amongst other prizes.
Bewley’s Managing Director Andrew Brooks said: “Our annual golf day is a highly popular event in the Bewley calendar, and we’re absolutely thrilled with how much was raised this year. Both Sebastian’s Action Trust and Guide Dogs do outstanding work, and we’re delighted to be able to help them with this outstanding fundraising total. We want to thank all concerned for their attendance, generosity and enthusiastic golf performance.”
