Country & Town House has reported that wellness facilities are becoming an expected feature in new luxury homes, rather than an optional extra.

Ralph Montague, longevity expert, author and founder of The Longevity Clinic, also says that he has noticed affluent homeowners and property developers increasingly looking beyond traditional wellness spaces, and toward fully integrated environments.

“A huge shift I’ve noticed in the past two or three years is the number of property professionals looking to incorporate home longevity spas into homes they’re planning to rent out. The percentage increase of property investors and homeowners incorporating home longevity spas compared to those buying machines for wellness spas is huge.

For high-net-worth tenants, wellness is no longer just a lifestyle bonus. It is now becoming part of what makes a property feel genuinely premium. They want homes that aren’t just looking good on the eye, but also support sleep, recovery, energy and long-term health.

“For developers and investors, this is a clear opportunity to stand out in the prime rental market. The next generation of luxury homes will not just be judged by location or design, but by how well they support the way people want to live.”

The Global Wellness Institute reported that the global wellness real estate market reached $584 billion in 2024, up from $465 billion in 2023, and is forecast to reach $1.1 trillion by 2029.

The organisation also states that wellness real estate is now the fastest-growing sector in the wellness economy and represents around 3.3% of global annual construction output.

This shift is already visible in the luxury property market, with wellness features such as saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools and snow rooms increasingly being built into high-end developments.

Connect2 trays stand at just 35mm in height, are guaranteed to avoid all standard joist sizes and spans thanks to the precise positioning of a unique offset dual waste outlet, allowing the installer to choose the waste clear from obstruction to connect. The tray may need to be rotated to accommodate the fixed joists, but once set, the installer simply uses the blanking plug provided to seal the unused waste and plumb in the high-flow waste and trap, avoiding any need to lift the tray off the floor. If both waste holes are free then both wastes can be connected for even faster water removal. A re-inforced, magnetically secured waste cover, that’s easily removed for cleaning, then sits neatly over the plugs to complete the installation.

The Connect2 range of shower trays are manufactured in a acrylic capped ABS filled with a structural resin bonded stone for maximum strength and stability. The collection offers 12 rectangular sizes from 800mm square to 1700x800mm plus four quadrant/offset quadrant options. Each comes complete with a high flow waste rated to 35 litres of water per minute, and is competitively priced.

Now more than ever, consumers know what they want on their kitchen wish list, with social media at their fingertips helping to provide 24/7 real home ideas.

In turn, these design insights give them the added confidence to adopt new trends and choose their own unique style. As part of the buying journey, sustainability and longevity are also increasingly important themes, reflecting a deeper commitment to choosing a future proof home.

Quiet Luxury

Consumers are embracing the growing kitchen trend for quiet luxury, inspired by nature they are looking for tactile textures, using a palette of muted and earth tones to achieve timeless elegance. In recent years there has been a shift to this pared back style, as they invest in understated design details, whether its discreet luxe handles or beautifully book matched furniture. It’s the ultimate design reset for those leading busy lifestyles, with the sole aim of creating a calming haven for everyone to relax and enjoy time together.

Japandi

A striking fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design, Houzz highlighted Japandi as an emerging trend in its 2025 UK Houzz Kitchen Trends Study. Perfectly complementing the concept of quiet luxury, it is a harmony of minimalism, neutral tones and timeless elegance. The style movement embraces the natural beauty of wood, with kitchens crafted for longevity and visual simplicity. In essence, wellbeing is at the core of its philosophy, creating a kitchen space that transcends form and function to deliver the ultimate feel good factor.

Hidden Storage

Hidden storage will remain a defining trend for 2026, as there becomes a deeper desire to reduce visual clutter and achieve a tranquil kitchen scheme. The traditional layout of a kitchen and separate utility room is being re-imagined, with standard cabinetry doors now concealing walk-in pantries and laundry zones. Ideal to elevate smaller layouts, this type of smart storage offers consumers the freedom to efficiently organise daily essentials and hide away appliances. A perfect fit for the housebuilding sector, this design personalisation creates a seamless fusion of form and function, whilst capturing the essence of the quiet luxury trend.

Decorative Lighting

Lighting is a key element of any kitchen scheme, best layered to set the mood, help carry out functional tasks and highlight focal points. In 2026, its expected there will be a growing demand for decorative accent lighting, as consumers look to discreetly elevate their kitchen spaces. Smart lighting is the go to trend for many, with the latest LED technology innovations providing aesthetically pleasing and user controlled solutions. There is a definite shift to subtle lighting tones, dialling down with softer elements that emphasise the core aspects of the kitchen, while creating a warm and inviting space to unwind.

Curve appeal

The trend for broken-plan living has meant the island has become an important design detail in creating an informal divide between kitchen and living areas. Entertaining at home and socialising is integral to family life, with island styles now centred around creating a multi-functional space, with informal seating taking centre stage. 2025 has already seen the resurgence of soft curves to cabinetry and this theme will continue as consumers look to achieve a contemporary and cosy elegance.

Bespoke detail

Quiet luxury is all about the subtle detail to enhance the kitchen and as a manufacturer we have seen an increasing desire for bespoke design elements as standard. Consumers love the idea of customising their kitchen to their own individual style, whether its architectural fluting of cabinetry, embracing new innovative materials for work-surfaces or personalised storage. The pursuit of luxury is an enduring trend, now closely intertwined with sustainability, with homebuyers expecting to have access to premium furniture solutions.

It’s an exciting time for developers to explore a host of fresh new design trends and timeless choices to meet the needs of modern consumers. 2026 is the perfect time to connect with homebuyers, showcasing that ‘less is more’ with truly individual kitchen styles.

It was hosted by Middleby Residential, whose brands include Aga, La Cornue and Novy, and Mr Higham – the author of the book, ‘The Next Big Thing – Forecasting Consumer Trends for Profit’ – explained how the home was becoming a cocoon, shielding us from the anxiety and uncertainty in the world today.

“The kitchen is becoming the (home’s) social hub – a place to work, eat, talk and share. It’s no longer just a functional space; it’s an emotional one,” he said, predicting that future kitchen layouts would reflect the growing emphasis on sociability, with larger, more flexible spaces blurring the boundaries between cooking, dining and living zones even more than now.

It’s a view that has captured the attention of Reginox UK Commercial Director, Dave Mayer, who says: “It’s a trend we are seeing being increasingly recognised by housebuilders, who can see the importance of the kitchen as a social hub in a new build home, so they are actually beginning to create larger spaces in response consumer demand for open kitchen and living areas.”

Reginox’s constantly evolving range of sinks and taps is driven by paying close attention to consumers’ desires and those of professionals in the sectors it serves – housebuilders, developers, contractors, specifiers, B2B KBB suppliers, DIY retailers, multi-outlet merchants and kitchen furniture manufacturers.

“I strongly believe it’s that customercentric mindset that makes us a major player in the UK – and international – kitchen, building and project markets,” adds Dave.

“We have an unparalleled product offering, and I strive to ensure that our team offer our customers the best quality products and prices all backed up by our service-driven approach that means we operate with a ‘complete, on-time, every time’ philosophy.”

And while housebuilders are recognising the demand for bigger kitchen/living areas, people living in new builds with smaller kitchen areas are also fuelling the trend by knocking walls down and/or having extensions built.

A 2024 report showed that more than 45% of UK homeowners renovated their kitchen to be more open, with a third opting for a completely open-plan design, according to Houzz, the project management, ideas and design website for homeowners and trades.

New collection with futuristic appeal

Another futuristic prediction suggested by Mr Higham is a shift to softer aesthetics, natural materials and designs that invite people to connect with, and enjoy, their surroundings, declaring that ‘luxury is no longer about status or price’ but a more ‘personal, nurturing idea of home’.

Dave Mayer: “Regardless of space, every kitchen consumer and designer is looking to create a wow factor, and I think our range of sinks and taps has a role to play in a kitchen of any size. But, of course, any wow factor calls for quality combined with style.”

The newest addition to the Reginox UK sinks range is a collection of granite sinks designed and manufactured in Italy by one of its long-standing partners. The Reginox-branded Elite Granite Collection offers high-quality, coloured materials combined with stylish designs and differing shapes, bowl and drainer patterns, made up of two different materials – ALTEQ and SYNTEQ.

ALTEQ is a composition of natural granite and acrylic resin, made to exploit the natural essence of quartz. Created through a specialised process, using fully coloured granite particles, ALTEQ sinks are easy to clean, timeless, durable and versatile, with a high resistance to shock and temperature changes.

Innovation is at the vanguard of our SYNTEQ sinks too. It is recognisable by its ease of cleaning with a smooth, zeroporous water and stain repellent surface that provides high resistance to thermal shock and impact, abrasion and UV radiation.

Dave Mayer: “The granite collection reflects our understanding of the importance of hassle-free maintenance and easy cleaning, and our dedication to providing customers with products that combine style, functionality, and durability at competitive prices.”

Models in the collection include

SYNTEQ’S BEST and MULTA, while the ALTEQ collections features QUADRA, EGO and EASY – all with long guarantees. The newly branded granite collections take the current Reginox UK range to 150 sinks in various materials, sizes and combinations. It is complemented by 56 taps – including 4-in-1 and 3-in-1 hot water models – accessories, and other peripheral products sold via an extensive network of strong trading partnerships.

It appears the kitchen of the future is closer than we think, and Reginox is excited to be part of it!

AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Centre has been translating trends into desirable colours for more than 30 years. Its annual ColourFutures trend forecast meeting brings together in-house experts, international architects, designers and journalists to share insights into how people’s reactions to the world impact colour choices.

For the first time, three colours were selected which all have common ground, but each bring a unique quality. From the timeless, soothing qualities of Mellow Flow to the meditative, calm and grounding nature of Slow Swing, and the vibrant, exciting and uplighting Free Groove there is a shade to suit any brief.

Used individually or in combination, the Colours of the Year 2026 offer professionals the flexibility to create multiple expressions of energy, mood and pace. The Rhythm of Blues collection is also complemented by interior and exterior palettes, making it easier than ever for housebuilders to find the right colours for their project.

Marianne Shillingford, Dulux Creative Director and Colour Expert at AkzoNobel, explains: “Blue has been the world’s favourite colour for years – but it’s far from one note. It delivers a sense of fluidity, relief, stillness and freedom, which is exactly what’s needed in today’s fastpaced world.

“It’s roots in nature give us something to connect to, as well. When we see light blues like Mellow Flow, we might think of soothing springs or sunrise skies, for example, or be reminded of the deep ocean’s chilled stillness with a dark blue like Slow Swing. Whereas Free Groove offers a more intense heat, like that of summer pool parties. Some of us are slowing the beat to recharge and find balance, while others are looking to crank up the volume and create spaces that are simply fun. “Rhythm of Blues gives us the opportunity to do both – it’s a family of colours that can soothe, steady or excite, depending on how you play it. This collection offers colours you can find peace in, and colours you can dance to, centred around three distinct rhythms to offer endless possibilities for changing the pace of your space.”

To support architects, specifiers and designers and provide additional guidance on the use of the Rhythm of Blues collection, Dulux has created the Dulux Trade Colours of the Year 2026 Specifier Guide. This includes inspiration that can help create the perfect space across any sector.

The Future Homes Standard (FHS) will help housebuilders and developers plan and invest in low carbon technology to reduce emissions and make sustainable living more achievable for all.

But as more of these technologies are integrated into new homes, how do they influence interior design?

When briefing an interior design partner, housebuilders and developers are advised to detail what renewables are included, where they are located, and the product specification/size. From a design perspective, this means we can plan and adapt a room’s appearance accordingly.

For example, where double panel or double height radiators are used, these can limit the space so we must be more creative, perhaps adding decorative elements such as covers or shelving. Conversely, where air source heat pumps are installed with underfloor heating, we don’t have to consider radiator positions, which gives more design flexibility. This is especially useful in bathrooms and ensuites where extra storage space is always welcome!

Having these early conversations with your design team can help avoid frustrations for homeowners. Something as simple as advising on the position of a smart heating thermostat to ensure it doesn’t create an unwanted focal point shows attention to detail that can make a real difference.

These briefings are equally important for highlighting any house type or layout changes. The drive for energy efficiency means some properties now have smaller windows. In these homes, maximising natural light is essential so talk to your designers about practical solutions. These might include deliberately positioning mirrors opposite light sources for reflection, using light fabrics such as voiles, or prioritising additional lighting.

Actually, lighting is probably one of the most impacted areas of design. Recessed downlighters or spotlights used to feature prominently in new homes and were great for creating bright, welcoming spaces with plenty of warmth. But unfortunately, they’re not energy efficient and their use is now very much limited to kitchens and bathrooms. Of course, this isn’t a deterrent for us, and we’ve risen to the challenge by sourcing fabulous alternatives such as rechargeable wall lights or pendant points to ensure the same impact!

Much of what the FHS will mandate is aligning with modern living trends and our collective commitment to future proof our homes. I read recently that UK homeowners will only move on average once every 20 years, so our homes and their interiors must be more adaptable. Showhomes should display where renewables leave room for creativity and flexibility, highlighting where thoughtful design and energy efficiency go hand in hand.
