Free new software tool helps model impact of new Building Regs

The industry’s first software tool for previewing building performance in line with the 2022 Building Regulations updates is now available to use for free.

Design SAP 10 Beta has been launched by Elmhurst Energy to give house builders, architects, new build energy assessors and others a head start on the implementation of the upcoming changes.

The software has been made available following the release of the SAP 10.1 methodology, and the Government’s Future Homes Standard consultation response, and includes the confirmed updates to Parts L and F of the Building Regulations for 2022.

Also included are the two proposed standards for the Fabric Energy Efficiency Rate, as outlined in the Future Homes Standard consultation.

The tool is the only one of its kind currently on the market, and is free to use for those with a Design SAP licence.

Jason Hewins, on construction support team leader at Elmhurst Energy, said: “Our exclusive Design SAP 10 Beta software will allow users to model buildings based on the Primary Energy and Carbon Emission compliance standards set to be introduced next year. Assessors will get to familiarise themselves with the new methodology, while house builders can be advised on what’s required for their new build properties from next year.

“This will give them an idea as to how projects will perform under the new standards, enabling them to plan now for what’s coming down the line and save both time and money.”

An uplift to Part L of the Building Regulations, which governs conservation of fuel and power, is being introduced for new homes from summer next year, in efforts to reduce carbon emissions from new-builds by 31%.

This is a stepping-stone increase, before the Government introduces even tighter emissions targets when the Future Homes Standard is enacted in 2025.
