Work commences at Southern Housing Group’s new London development

Southern Housing Group, one of the largest housing associations in the south east of England, has started construction work on its £32 million development on the corner of Bunhill Row and Featherstone Street in Old Street, London Borough of Islington.

Designed by HTA, this high quality residential development will provide 65 new homes, including 35 homes for private sale, 19 for social rent and 11 for shared ownership within walking distance of Shoreditch, one of the capital’s most lively areas, and Old Street underground station.

The development will also feature a large shared garden, a green roof and private outdoor spaces for each of the properties.

Alan Townshend, Group Development Director at Southern Housing Group, said: “Having been established as a charitable trust in 1901, we built our very first homes in Islington so we have strong historic ties with the area. We already manage 1,158 homes for more than 1,500 residents in the borough and, with this new highly attractive multi-tenure development, we’ll deliver an extra 65 homes and continue to meet the high demand for modern, quality homes in central London.”

Southern Housing Group is working in partnership with Hill, one of England’s leading housebuilders to build its latest residential development in Islington.

Construction is scheduled to complete towards the end of 2017.
