New MD calls for more women to consider careers in construction

The new Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Anglia has called for more women to aim for the top jobs in the construction industry.

Michelle Baker has been promoted from the role of Sales Director for the Norwich-based housebuilder – and hopes to inspire others to follow in her footsteps.

She said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be given this exciting opportunity. I am keen to increase the job opportunities available to local people and would especially like to encourage more women to consider the construction industry, which offers a huge range of job roles at all levels – from apprentices and graduates to those looking to develop long-lasting and rewarding careers, like I have.”

Michelle herself initially joined Persimmon in 2003 as a sales advisor, rising through the ranks as a sales manager and head of sales before being appointed sales director in 2018.

She added: “My focus for the business is firmly on ensuring a positive experience for all customers, delivering beautifully designed and constructed homes they can enjoy living in for many years to come.

“Supporting customers is the cornerstone of our business, with everyone in the Persimmon Anglia team working hard to achieve and maintain five-star customer satisfaction ratings.

“I want to forge relationships with new suppliers and contractors who can support our aim to develop high quality homes across Norfolk, and I have already set to work building my team, ensuring we have the right people in place to deliver customer satisfaction and continued success for the Anglia business.”

Regional Divisional Director, Simon McDonald, said: “Michelle is known and respected throughout the local business community for her professional strengths, energy and commitment to customer satisfaction.

“Her industry insight is balanced with a genuine desire to deliver high quality new homes for our customers and to support the community where she lives and works. This makes her the natural choice to lead the Anglia business through its next phase of growth and development and I wish her every success in this new role.”
