CALA Homes hits full fibre milestone

Major housebuilder CALA Homes has achieved a success rate of 99.99% in delivering ‘same day’ hyperfast connectivity for residents.

Since 2019, it has provided new home-movers with access to full fibre broadband as soon as they move into a new property, across 30 sites and over 4,200 new homes.

The connectivity is being supplied by Hyperoptic, a nationwide full fibre broadband provider. As Hyperoptic installs its fibre broadband all the way into a property, it offers a quantum leap in speeds at which users access the internet, ensuring consistent connection and speed regardless of the time of day, devices connected or who else is also online. Its gigabit-capable broadband has average speeds of up to 900Mbps, which is over 12x faster than the UK average.

Currently only 18 per cent of the UK has access to this gold-standard of connectivity. Last year the government has confirmed it will amend the Building Regulations 2010 and legislate that new homes will have gigabit broadband as standard. CALA has proactively prioritised ensuring the availability of hyperfast broadband ahead of this legislation.

CALA first partnered with Hyperoptic in 2018 to supply its new developments with gigabit-capable broadband across its new housing developments in West Scotland. Since then, it has extended its relationship nationwide.

Steve Rule, Group Design & Technical Director for CALA Group says: “Our priority is to make the move to a CALA home as easy and streamlined as possible for our buyers. Meeting customer expectations when it comes to broadband and connectivity is a vitally important part of this, which is why we have been investing in this technology for some time.

“Last year, every new CALA home across the UK was enabled with Hyperoptic’s connectivity. The installation of Hyperoptic’s full fibre broadband is now a standard component in CALA’s build process.”

Liam McAvoy, Managing Director, Business Development, Hyperoptic: “Today’s modern family need connectivity they can rely upon, given that they will have upwards of 20 Internet-connected devices and many of them will be requiring bandwidth at the same time. It’s unacceptable for a parent to lose video quality on a Zoom call just because children are streaming content on TikTok on their mobile whilst playing Fortnite Battle Royale on their PC. Our full fibre connectivity ensures that everyone in the family has a great experience. We are thrilled to be the partner of choice for CALA and to provide the digital foundation for their connected homes.”
