Backhouse repositions for growth

Design-led, regional housebuilder Backhouse announces a number of management changes as it embarks on its next phase of growth.

It also confirms that having focused exclusively to date on organic development, it is looking for potential acquisitions as a means of achieving greater scale and geographical reach. These changes support Backhouse’s strategic vision of being the market leading mid-sized UK housebuilder that continues to reshape and drive innovation in the housing sector.

CFO Ian Jones will take on the additional role of Acting Managing Director, Bath. Steve Russell, who set up the first Backhouse office, will become Managing Director of our Oxford office, leading the build out of the Oxford region and building on his success in Bath. He continues to be responsible for Land and Design across the entire business.
Tom Mirfield, initially our Finance Director, becomes Director, Corporate Finance taking on responsibility for both existing funding relationships and the funding of future strategic initiatives.

Theo Backhouse, Founder and Executive Chairman said, ‘This is a very exciting time for Backhouse. Since the start, we’ve been committed to increasing the quality of design and construction in UK housing. Working with the best architectural talent in the UK, we’ve demonstrated that new homes can be better and in the four years since we founded the business, we’ve shown that a design-led developer can challenge the volume housebuilders and offer home buyers much needed choice. Having grown organically we are now also looking to expand through acquisition to deliver our vision at scale.’
