Welcome to the second monthly round up of Government consultations of 2019. In partnership with Robert Flint of Legis we can help you respond to consultations which affect your business. The headline this month is the opening of the latest Law Commission consultation on Right to Manage.

 

1. Open Government Consultations

Improving access to social housing for members of the Armed Forces – closing on 8 March 2019, this consultation sets out proposals for new statutory guidance for local authorities to assist members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families, to access social housing.

Good practice on how residents and landlords work together to keep their home and building safe – following the publication of Dame Judith Hackitt’s report, Building a safer future, this call for evidence (closing on 12 February 2019) invites views on how residents and landlords/building managers work together regarding fire and structural safety.

Technical review of Approved Document B of the building regulations – closing on 1 March 2019, this call for evidence seeks views on the future technical guidance contained within Approved Document B (fire safety) the key first step in the technical review announced in July 2018.

Biodiversity net gain: updating planning requirements – closing on 10 February 2019, this consultation relates to proposals to make biodiversity net gain necessary for developments when granting planning permission.

2. The Law Commission’s 13th Programme of Law Reform: Residential leasehold and commonhold

Right to Manage – the latest Law Commission consultation on reform of leasehold, this consultation closes on 30 April 2019 and seeks views on proposals to extend right to manage to more mixed used developments and across multiple buildings on the same estates.

Reinvigorating commonhold: the alternative to leasehold ownership – closing on 10 March 2019, the Law Commission’s consultation follows up on the call for evidence last year and seeks detailed responses on all aspects of commonhold.

3. HCLG Select Committee Inquiries

Modern Methods of Construction – the HCLG Committee is currently examining written responses for stakeholders to explain the benefits and drawbacks of using MMC techniques on their developments. The Committee can accept late responses if you contact them in advance.

Leasehold Reform – the HCLG Committee’s inquiry looking at the progress made on the Government’s programme of leasehold reform is ongoing. It has heard oral evidence from leaseholders, campaigners, developers and freeholders.
