Planning permission submitted for 233 new homes in Basildon

A planning application has been submitted by Sempra Homes for 233 new homes on a disused car park close to Basildon town centre.

The development on the site known as Car Park 14 will be called Chapelgate and is earmarked to be a fully affordable housing scheme subject to achieving grant funding. Of the 233 homes, 217 will be apartments ranging from five to 10 storeys as well as 16 houses.

Manager of Sempra Homes Melanie Keys said: “This is an exciting project for Sempra where we will be delivering much needed affordable homes in a well-connected town centre location. The site has been disused for some time now and the addition of these new homes will improve the street scene and provide more housing opportunities to our residents and key workers to get a foot on the property ladder.

“Local jobs will also be created through the construction process, contributing to the local economy.”

All homes have been designed to meet the national space standards and the scheme will be brought forward in liaison with the local crime prevention team to meet secure by design standards. Internally the properties have been designed so that the rooms are easily adaptable for everyday living.

Sempra Homes, which was set up by Basildon Council as an independent company, is committed to delivering properties across the borough and will provide a variety of different tenures including affordable rent, shared ownership, market rent and market sale.
