More than £830,000 in funding for local infrastructure has already been provided by Bellway as part of its Rowden Chase development in Chippenham.

The money represents the first of three payments the housebuilder will make to Wiltshire Council during construction of the 225-home development, which will total more than £2.78 million.

Bellway is making the payments under the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a charge on new development that local councils use to fund essential infrastructure such as schools, roads, public transport and community facilities.

Construction work is continuing at Rowden Chase, part of the wider 1,000-home Rowden Park Garden Village neighbourhood being created to the south of Chippenham. Two showhomes opened their doors and the first properties will be ready for occupation in May.

A range of two to five-bedroom houses are being built for the private market at Rowden Chase, alongside 68 affordable homes for low-cost rent or shared ownership comprising one and two-bedroom apartments and two to three-bedroom houses.

Enfield apartments to receive fully-funded rooftop solar in UK-first for direct resident bill savings

National property developer and investor Zunikh has partnered with solar company Gryd to deploy fully-funded solar on a new-build apartment block in Enfield – the first apartment scheme to benefit from this model.

Funded and operated by Gryd, the rooftop solar will supply an estimated 30% of the building’s annual electricity demand. Generation will be allocated directly to the nine individual apartments, rather than limited to communal services – a UK-first which is expected to deliver average energy savings of £8.4k per apartment over 25 years.

The system is also expected to deliver a significant uplift in building performance, improving the EPC rating of each apartment from B to A.

Rooftop solar in multi-family developments is typically used only to power communal areas such as foyers, lifts and stairwells, with no direct impact on residents’ own energy bills or individual apartments’ EPC ratings. Gryd’s scheme is uniquely able to allocate generation to individual apartments rather than just shared services – a significant breakthrough for affordable solar adoption and unlocking higher EPC performance in high-density housing.

Developers of the UK’s first true solar subscription, Gryd’s model helps developers unlock higher energy performance and pass the benefits of onsite renewable systems directly to their buyers – without the upfront cost or maintenance burden of owning the solar hardware.

Engineering-led approach to deliver 183 houses and five apartment blocks within Taylor Wimpey’s Crawley masterplan.

Perega is tackling some of the South East’s toughest water neutrality requirements and fifteen metres of unstable made ground to deliver the civil and structural engineering strategy for Taylor Wimpey’s major residential masterplan in the Horsham and Crawley region.

Early ground investigations confirmed deep and variable fill across the development parcels. To address this, Perega has designed a piled foundation solution with piles driven up to 25 metres through the deep unstable material to sufficiently embed into the soil beneath. The piles are linked by reinforced concrete ground beams to support the walls of the masonry housing with precast concrete floors. Pile layouts have been coordinated with the architectural design to suit each parcel and tying beams were omitted where the pile’s lateral capacity allowed. This reduced concrete volumes while maintaining structural performance.

Water neutrality has been a key driver of the overall civil engineering strategy. Perega has incorporated sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) across the site, including permeable paving and controlled discharge developed in coordination with the wider drainage masterplan. Ground beam concrete mixes include GGBS to reduce embodied carbon and a cut-and-fill earthworks approach retains material on-site to limit waste and vehicle movements.

The civils package includes highways, drainage and external works delivered within defined level constraints. Perega is managing technical approvals with the local Highways Authority and AWIN – an independent water company – while supporting the project through RIBA Stages 4 and 5 across multiple parcels.

Yorkshire Housebuilder Newett Homes has completed the acquisition of a seven-acre greenfield site in the village of Kirton in Lindsey, paving the way for a £20m development of new homes.

The project is the first outside of Yorkshire for the privately owned, Wetherby-based developer, representing a key milestone in its long-term strategy to expand its geographical footprint beyond the region.
