Construction begins on 153 new affordable homes in Banbury

The new homes for affordable shared ownership and rent will be built in phases over four years with the first phase due for completion in October this year.

Leading affordable housing provider Stonewater is delivering the scheme in partnership with Cherwell District Council and developers Bellway Homes. The completed development will provide a mix of 46 two- and three-bedroom homes for shared ownership and a 107 one- and two-bedroom flats, houses and bungalows for affordable rent.

“With access to the housing market so challenging, affordable housing has never been more important, particularly in this part of Oxfordshire where property can be hugely expensive and out of many people’s reach. These new Stonewater homes in Hanwell View will give local people an opportunity to afford their own home, close to their family, friends and work,” says Chris Montague, Head of Development for Stonewater. “We look forward to working with Cherwell District Council and Bellway Homes on this much-needed housing scheme which will bring real value to the community.”

The new homes in Hanwell View are located three miles from Banbury and the market town’s shopping centre, rail station, local businesses, services and amenities.

“As house prices continue to increase there is a growing demand for affordable homes across Cherwell so we welcome the provision of so many sought-after homes in such a prime location,” says Councillor John Donaldson, Cherwell’s lead member for housing. “For people living and working in Cherwell this represents a fantastic opportunity to rent modern properties at an affordable rate or join the property ladder through the shared ownership initiative.”

Stonewater is also working on a nearby development of 91 new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
